| Dunes City 's third annual Festival of the lakes was held in August in order to inform our town's people of the importance of good stewardship and care of our lakes and environs. Great contributions from generous local kitchens, and the creative bakers adorning them, contributions from shops in town, and a cadre of volunteers made this year's event the best ever. Many thanks go out to those who helped in this educational, informative, fun, and tasty event. Once a year we gather to honor our town's source of life; and discuss how to protect it. Committees are dedicated to following our Comprehensive Plan, the root of our ordinances. Their combined energy produces an event that binds people toward a common | purpose. Not only was the
'fun index' high but the winnings were much better this year. The raffle prizes brought joy to many surprised winners. Learning was
primary, though. John Stead talked in depth of Oregon 's particular water rights. Richard Koehler gave a photo review of conditions leading to
lake degradation and how to change our behavior. Ralph Farnsworth, a revenue committee participant, taught many of us about the city's financials. So many people took part in this year's Festival that our revenue for educational and water quality concerns tripled!
